Privacy Policy

The party responsible for data processing is:

Personal data (e.g. email address, topic interests, technical log data) is used exclusively to:

• enable the news delivery,
• technically operate and improve the service,
• respond to user inquiries.

Data is not used commercially or passed on to third parties, except to the service providers listed in section 4.

Only data necessary for operation is collected:

• Email address
• Topics, including search terms and any search prompt
• Settings such as language, delivery time, frequency and chosen channels
• The briefings we create, so you can find them again in your feed
• Device tokens for push notifications, if you turn push on
• Feedback you send us through the app
• Technical data (e.g. time of sign-in, IP address at login)

Conversations with the search assistant are only kept in the server’s memory while the conversation lasts and are not stored. Only the topic you confirm at the end is saved. All data is kept for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, it is deleted within a reasonable period.

We use the following service providers to run Newsy:

• Supabase for database and authentication (Zurich region, Switzerland)
• Render for the application servers (Frankfurt region, Germany)
• Vercel to serve the web app
• Resend to send emails
• Anthropic (Claude) as the only AI service: the search assistant helps you set up topics, and Claude derives search terms when needed, checks the articles found for relevance and writes the summaries
• Serper (serper.dev), with SerpApi as a fallback, for the news search
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) and the Apple Push Notification Service for push notifications
• Google and Apple for sign-in, if you sign in with one of these accounts
• RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) to verify purchases in the apps and assign them to your account

Anthropic, Serper and SerpApi only receive your topics, search terms, any search prompt, your messages to the assistant and the content of the articles found — not your email address or your account. Please avoid putting details about yourself into topics that you do not want to share.

These process data exclusively on behalf of and in accordance with data protection requirements (Art. 9 revFADP).

You buy a plan in the iOS or Android app from Apple or Google. They process your payment data as independent controllers under their own privacy policies. RevenueCat and we only receive what we need to unlock your plan: your Newsy account ID, the product purchased, term, status and the purchase identifier, but no payment data. If you delete your account, we also delete your data at RevenueCat.

Some of these providers are based in the USA or process data there. Data is only transferred to such countries if an adequate level of data protection is ensured, for example on the basis of an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

Appropriate technical and organizational measures are taken to protect stored personal data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

Users have the right to request information about their stored data, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted.

Requests may be directed to the contact address provided in Section 1.

News is only sent following explicit consent through a double opt-in process.

Every briefing and every reminder includes a way to stop receiving them.

If you have set up topics but no channel we can deliver briefings through yet, we remind you by email at most four times. If you received an access code and have not redeemed it, you get at most two reminders.

The operator reserves the right to update this privacy policy as needed. The current version published on the platform shall always be authoritative.
