    Frequently asked

What you should know about Newsy

    What is Newsy?

Newsy is a personalised news briefing: you name your topics, and Newsy sends you a daily or weekly AI-written summary of the articles published on them — by email or in the app.

How is Newsy different from 20 Minuten, SRF News or the NZZ?

Newsy is not a newsroom but a filtering layer on top of them. Where conventional news outlets show every reader the same selection, Newsy assembles a separate selection for each person, based on the topics they specified beforehand.

    Who is Newsy for?

Newsy is for anyone tracking a particular subject rather than consuming news in general — an industry, a company, a technology or an ongoing story. If you read the paper cover to cover anyway, you do not need Newsy. If you want to know what has happened since yesterday on your specific topics, you do.

Which sources does Newsy draw on?

Newsy searches the Google News index and evaluates the outlets listed there — there is no fixed editorial selection. For German-language topics Newsy uses the Swiss edition of Google News, so Swiss media appear in the results; English-language topics run through the international edition. Other languages are not currently supported. Per-topic control over sources is planned.

How does Newsy know what interests me?

Newsy uses only the topics you enter yourself during setup. You can optionally add a search prompt to sharpen the selection further. Your reading behaviour is not tracked.

How reliable are the AI summaries?

Every summary names the sources it was built from, so you can read them in the original. As with any AI system, summaries can contain errors — for decisions that matter, the original source governs.

Which AI models are behind it?

Newsy uses different models for the individual steps: Google Gemini extracts the search terms from your topic, Anthropic Claude checks the articles found for relevance and writes the summary, and a model from OpenAI is used for the topic comparison in the history view.

    What does Newsy cost?

Newsy is currently free. The product is in an alpha phase; if the number of users and the running costs grow, a fee may be introduced later. A standard account includes three topics — if you need more, write to info@newsy.me.

How often do I get a briefing?

You choose between daily and weekly, and you set the time of day yourself.

    Is there a Newsy app?

Yes — Newsy is available as an iOS app on the App Store and as a web app in the browser. An Android app is coming shortly to the Google Play Store.

Can I use Newsy in English?

Yes, Newsy is available in German and English, and you can switch languages at any time.

    Where is my data stored?

User data is stored in Switzerland: the database runs on Supabase in the Zurich region. Processing — that is, generating the briefings — happens on servers at Render in Frankfurt, Germany, and therefore within the EEA.

How do I cancel or delete my account?

You can delete your account yourself at any time in the account settings. If you can no longer sign in, an email to info@newsy.me is enough.
